Coping with Grief At Christmas Time
An informative session with guest a speaker from
NALAG – National Association for Loss and Grief (NSW) Inc with us to discuss:
- Coping Strategies,
- Helping understand the changes and help someone who is grieving, and
- Know that Christmas can still be special, and other topics to support you at this time of year.
When someone has experienced a loss, there will be large and small adjustments needed to be made in their lives. These could bring uncertainty, frustration, fear, sadness and change as each new day comes along.
Grief is about adapting to change in life, thoughts, hopes, beliefs and the future. Christmas and the holiday season for people who have experienced death of someone they love, is often far from a time of peace, happiness and goodwill.

Coping with Christmas has much to do with challenging your expectations of the ‘perfect’ Christmas. It is important to acknowledge that you are not totally responsible for others’ happiness, but also that they cannot assist you if they are not aware of your pain or concerns.
Be gentle with yourself, trying not to expect too much of yourself or those around you, makes good sense, but often needs planning.
